The International Watch Company was founded in 1868 by an American engineer who wanted Swiss hand-finishing with American machine methods, and put the factory in Schaffhausen to get the river.

IWC rarely reaches our price band. When one does it is usually a mid-century automatic — plain, thin, and far better made than it looks.
